TASK SYSTEM
. AERODROME WORK CLAIM- FOR STANDARD PAYMENT The aeting-Minister of Employment (tho Hon. J. A- Young) received a deputation of the National .Unemployed Workers’ Movement. Tho speakers requested that aerodrome construction works throughout New Zealand sh°uld be made ordinary - public works with fulltime payment at standard rates. 1 It was mentioned that work at/ Gisborne had been suspended, and the men believed that thev would lose from half to one and a half day’s work monthly under the contract or task system imTlie Minister ascertained "from" the deputation that there would he no difficulty in completing the work set under the task system within the time limit imposed, but such jobs of national importance should, they contended, be conducted under normal conditions. ‘ Mr Young replied that the task system under which aerodromes were being constructed gave the men a 20 per cent, increase on the rates under the No. 5 scheme, and they could average 12s a day. Christchurch aerodromp workers were so satisfied that now the job was nearly over they expressed a desire to* go as far away as Mount Oook for similar work.
