RETREAT CUT OFF
TRAIN BANDITS IN MANCBUKUO PRISONERS RELEASED UNHARMED (United Press Association—Br Electrio. Telegraph—Copyright) SHANGHAI, 3rd September. Moving with unexpected speed across the Manchurian plains in motor trucks, a strong detachment of the Harbin Garrison cut off the retreat of tiie bandits responsible for Thursday’s train outrage and succeeeded in releasing the two American captives, Messrs Lury and Jolianson and aiso all Japanese captives. All were unharmed. A furious engagement preceded the release. The bandits, numbering 150, filially abandoned their prisoners and scattered under heavy machine gun fire. A later message states that the Manchurian train bandits were pursued and exterminated.
