COMMUNITY SING AND DANCE AT FOXHILL

On Saturday evening one of the most successful functions held, in l<oxhi 1 was greeted by an audience wln.cli filled to capacity tho spacious school room, lhe entertainment took the form of a community sing, followed bv an excellent home-made supper and dance. Mr Stewart, the chairman of the school committee, and Mr H. Fairman, the secretary, deserve credit for organising tile concert, the funds from which will considerably augment the cash in hand for the replacement of the school floor.

Mr Percy James, v.’lio led the sing, was in his usual good form, and introduced a budget of humorous songs monologues, and stories, which the audience appreciated to the full. His associate, Mr Glarrie Lee, was at the piftno, and provided the accompaniments in a, highly efficient manner. The vocalists were Miss Sylvie Blackman (mezzo soprano) and Mr L. G. Bourne (baritone): The former sang very artistically ‘After Dark,” ‘‘Brown Eyes',” and ‘‘Little Street where old friends meet.” whilst Mr Bourne was heard to advantage in “One Alone” from the ‘‘Desert Song,” the ‘‘Yeoman’s Wedding Song.” and “Captain Mac.” At tlie conclusion of the dance which finished at midnight, the chairman announced that arrangements had been completed with Mr James and party to appear again in a few weeks’ time, an announcement which was greeted with hearty acclamation.
