WOMEN’S HOCKEY
DOMINION TOURNEY (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Seventeen women’s hockey teams from all parts of the Dominion are taking part in the annual women’s tournament which opened on Saturday. There are 12 teams from the South Island and 5 from the North. In all eight matches were played on Saturday. Play in this tourney is not by tlie knock-out method, every team meets every other team. Following are the results: — Otago 3, Canterbury B 1; Canterbury A 4, Aketio 1; Eastern Southland 6, Bush 0; Ruahine 4, West Coast 0; Central Otago 3, Wairarapa 2; Southland 5, North Otago 2; Marlborough 3, Wellington 2; Ashburton 2, South Canterbury AUSTRALIANS SUPERIOR DEFEAT CANTERBURY IN GOOD EXHIBITION CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The touring Australian representatives, heat Canterbuiy at hockey by 2 goals to 1. The Australians were definitely superior in combination and stick play. The Canterbury players did not lack speed and were often quicker in moving on to the ball, but gave away and took many free hits through offside, obstruction and knock-on. The game was a good clean exhibiton of hockey.
