CLIMBING EXPEDITION
ATTEMPT ON NANfiA PARBAT FAILURE CAUSED BY BLIZZARDS (United Press Association—By Electro Telegraph—Copy right) CALCUTTA, 30th August. Six German Nanga Parbat climbers in Calcutta en route for home state they intend to return for another attempt at the mountain. Herr Bechtold, who is leadc-r in place of Dr. Merld, said the expedition reached 26,000, and was prevented from reaching the summit 600 feet away, by terrible blizzards which caused the deaths of three Germans and six porters. For a week they tried to rescue the missing men, but were defeated bv continuous blizzards and intense cold. Herr Bechtold paid a tribute to the courage, endurance, and devotion of the porters, who declared, ' whatever the danger, they would gladly accompany the Germans in' another attempt. .
