UNITED FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

ANNUAL MEETING OF COUNCIL ELECTION OF MANAGEMENT BOARD The annual meeting of the Nelson United Friendly Societies’ Council was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Waimea street, last evening. The president (Mr F. IT. Cooke) was in the chair, and seventeen delegates were present from (he following lodges: Maitai Lodge, U.AjO.D.; Loyal Nelson and Loyal Howard, M.U.1.0.0.F.; Tasman, 1.0.0. F.; Foresters, Reelmbites and Hibernians. The annual report of the Dispensary Board stated, inter alia:—We deeply regret the death of a valued member in the person of Bro. W. I l ’. Thomson (Maitai Lodge). Bro. T. E. Preen was elected to (ill the vacancy. Early in the year 1933, the dispensary was removed to more commodious and convenient premises at the corner of Waimea and Hardy streets. Present indications justify the hope that the change will result in the fuller development of our cash trade. The number of prescriptions dispensed to members during the year totalled 7118. The board anticipated that the year would he a difficult one, owing to increase of exchange, and the sales tax. The whole of this extra cost on members’ prescriptions has been borne by the dispensary. The report concluded by expressing appreciation of the loyal and efficient services of the manager, Mr Clark, and Mr Gibbs.

.The report and balance sheet were adopted, arid copies are to be distributed to the societies affiliated to the dispensary.

A ballot for the election of seven members of the Dispensary Board resulted in the following being returned: Bro. Geo. Page (Beehabite); Bro. W. McCone] lie (M.U.i.0.0.F.); Bro. M. 1,.
