SCOTTISH SOCIETY

SUCCESSFUL INGLESIDE i Tlie Nelson Provincial Scottish Society’s fortnightly Inglesidc was held in the Oddfellow's Hall on Monday evening. The hall was filled with a most enthusiastic audience. The programme consisting of vocal and dancing items was arranged by the Taliuna members of the society. Chief G. Jamieson was in the chair, and the Mayor, Mr W. J. Moffatt, and Chieftains J. Fingland, N. Brownlie, and N. Henderson wore also present. The proceedings opened with the singing of “Scots Wha Hae.” Miss M. Henderson sang “Jock O’Hazeldean, and as an encore the old favourite “Annie Laurie” was sung as a duet with Master John Henderson. A mostpopular item was a bagpipe selection by a diminutive piper Master Harry Banks. Both his selections were well pfayed, bringing a hearty round of applause. Mrs Telford sang ‘‘Vale” and “My Treasure” as the encore number, both songs being well received. The Misses Grade Inkster, Euphemia Fleming and Betty Henderson danced a Threesome Reel most gracefully and were recalled. A step dance by Mr L. Banks was well received and encored. Master John Henderson sang “O’ A’ the Airts,” his encore number being “The Lass with the Delicate Air.” A most graceful dance duo “Pierrott and Pierrette” arranged and performed by the Misses Grade Tnkstcr and Betty Henderson, was heartily cncorpd. The last item on the programme was a duet by Miss M. and Master John Henderson, entitled “Danny Boy.” Mrs M. Dowling played the accompaniments. The Chief moved a, hearty vote of thanks to the performers which was carried by acclamation. After supper, which was prepared by the ladies’ committee and served by the bandsmen, old time ballroom dancing was enjoyed by all. The music was supplied bv the Excelsior Orchestra, Pipc-Sgt. Banks and Piper J. Patterson played for the Highland and National dancing. Mr A. Gascoyne played for a number of- the dances. Councillor L. Boss was a most efficient M.C. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Anld Lang Syne."
