LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE

APPRECIATION OF CHAIRMAN’S SERVICES APPOINTMENT OF SUCCESSOR LEFT TO EXECUTIVE A general meeting of the Nelson Local Unemployment Committee . was held last evening in the Municipal buildings for the purpose oi electing a chairman in succession to Mr 0. L. Page who recently resigned. The meeting was presided over by the Mayor (Mr IV. J. Mofl’att). After a full discussion on general matters concerning unemployment, particularly in reference to the Unemployment Board, it was decided to empower the. executive committee to elect a chairman, also to fill two vacancies on the executive committee. The chairman made reference to the valuable work done for the unemployment committee by Mr Page and members of the executive, and it was decided to write to Mr Page expressing appreciation and thanks for bis services as chairman of the executive for three years. Several members spoke in support of the motion before it was carried. TRIBUTE BY HOSPITAL BOARD CHAIRMAN At yesterday’s meeting of the Nelson Hospital Board the chairman, Major R. Dagger, made reference to the resignation of Air G. L. Page, as chairman of the Nelson Local Unemployment Committee. “It will he hard to find a chairman to replace Mr Page; lie has been most disinterested in his efforts to relieve distress in the Nelson district and has given a lot of his business time to the work,’’ he said. The’speaker added that Mr Page, being unable to reconcile his feelings with the dictates of the Unemployment Board, had resigned. His resignation was a loss to the community.
