— RUGBY SUB-UNION ANNUAL MEETING HELD THE COMING SEASON (From Our Own Correspondent) The annual meeting of the Motueka Rugby Sub-Union was sold in Bowers’ Sample Rooms on Monday evening. Mr Harry Manoy presided over a full attendance of members and delegates. Those present were: Messrs H. B. McGlashen, E. Edmiston. T. Hickmott, E. B. Stohr, N. J. Dew, d. Pocklington and G. Smith, J. Wilkinson (Iluia), K. JHolyoakc, M.P. (Wanderer), J. A. McGlashen (United). IT. Hodgson (Tikaokao), R, Cowin and R. L. Park (Dovedale), and A. G. Nightingale (High School). ■ Mr Manoy extended a hearty welcome to the delegates, some of whom were new to tile sub-union. lie was pleased, he said, to see Mr J. A. McGlashen, president- of the "United Club, who was an old footballer of the district, and also to see Messrs R. Co will aild E. LPark from Dovedale.

The balance sheet and annual report were read and duly adopted.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows President, Mr Harry Manoy; vice-presidents, Messrs E. B'. Stohr, E. Sigley, and J. A. McGlashen; secretary, Mr H. B. McGlashen ; treasurer, Mr E. B. Stohr; auditors, Messrs S. B. Canavan and C. E. Sibson. It was decided that the emergency end permit committee and the fixture committee combine and form one committee. Those appointed were Messrs J. A. McGlashen, A. G. Nightingale, and N. J. Dew. It was also decided that there be a sole senior selector. Mr J. R. Clark was appointed to this office. Other appointments made were: J uniov selector, Mr E. Reed; third grade selector, Mr J. Wilkinson; delegate to Referees’ Appointment Board, Mr J.. A. McGlashen; delegates to main union, Messrs T. Hickmott, 11. Hodgson and R. Co win. The commencement of competitions for the season was fixed for 28th April. It was decided that the seniors juniors play three rounds and the third grade four rounds in their respective competitions. Entries for competitions were as follows: —Wanderers, United and Dovedale, one senior team and one junior team each; Iluia and Tikaokao one senior, one junior and one third class, and High SchooL one third class. The issuing of club tickets was left to the secretary and Messrs Hickmott and Clark; and’the finance committee was constituted the advertising committee. The meeting agreed that season tickets ho again issued this year; and Mr Harry Manoy offered to attend to then disposal. . , , Mr Hickmott was appointed to take charge of the grandstand, and was thanked for his services in previous years. Prior to the election of officers Mr E. A. Edmiston formally tendered his resignation as treasurer, owing to having received notice of his transfer to the Bank of New Zealand at Ashburton. The chairman,' in expressing regret at the loss the Sub-Union would suffer m the departure of Mr Edmiston from the district, said that in Mr Edmiston they could not have had a better man as treasurer. He had been associated with the Sub-Union in connection with the taking over of the Rugby Park, the carnival, etc., and his services had been most valuable. He wished Mr and Mrs Edmiston the best of luck in their new sphere, and expressed the hope that Mr Edmiston would still keep in touch with football The secretary, in supplementing the president’s remarks, said it was largely due to the efforts of Mr Eli mi s'; mi that the finances of the Sub-Union were so good. _ Messrs G. F. Smith, T. Hickmott, E. B. Stohr. J. Pocklington, K. J. Holyoake, M.P., R. Cowin. N. J. Dew, H. Hodgson, A. G. Nightingale and J. Wilkinson all spoke in appreciative terms of the excellent services rendered to football in the Motueka district by Mr Edmiston. Speaking in reply. Mr Edmiston said that he had enjoyed working for the Motueka Sub-Union; and would have happy recollections of the time spent with those with whom lie had been associated, He returned thanks for the kind wishes extended to Mrs Edmiston and himself.

ANNUAL REPORT The following annual report was read as follows: “The union’s financial position is very satisfactory. After paying all liabilities our current account shows a debit of 11s 7d. The grand stand and ground improvements show a credit balance of £65. The benefit stands at a credit of £175, and outstanding accounts amount to £29. This £29 is held over pending the instructions from the meeting.

“The competitions' were won by the following :—Senior cup, Dovedale ; junior cup and champion of champions, Huia; third class, Tikaokao. To these clubs we wish to offer our heartiest congratulations, .more especially to the Dovedale Club who only came up from junior competition the previous year. Tlie Huia cup and benefit shield matches were not finalised owing to want of time. Our players were well represented in the Shield team and in the junior representatives, and we offer our congratulations. “We wish to thank our selectors in all grades for the great efforts they have shown in selecting the various teams. We wish also to thank the Referees’ Association for the fine work they have clone in helping the game on, and again wish to mention that we trbst that any players retiring from the game this season will see their way to join the Referees’ Association and help the game along. In conclusion thanks are accorded the Press and the public for their support, and trust the incoming committee will work well together in the interests of the good old game of Rugby.”
