BRITAIN’S POSITION
NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, sth April. Among tlie passengers who arrived at Auckland by the Rotorua from England were Sir Philip Street and Lady Street. Sir Philip, who is LieutenantGovernor of New South Wales, and until his retirement on 31st January was Chief Justice of the State, spent eight months of his leave, preparatory to his retirement, on holiday in England. “I cannot pose as a financial or business expert, "but 1 am perfectly certain that the position in England is definitely and very noticeably improving,” he said. “England is showing to-day that she intends to retain her position in the world.” Sir Philip said that it was amazing even for an Australian to see the evidence of drought that the ))ast hot summer had caused in England. “The dry spell has exposed the paucity of the water facilities which exist in England’s countryside generally,” he said. “In many districts hardship has been caused by lack of water.”
