Scout - Notes

The following scout activities will take place din ing Easter :• — I The Iron I)oke Sea Scouts will be rowing at Wellington in the annual sea scout regatta. The Tanaiwha Troop will' hike over the Dun track and camp in Aniseed Valley. A party from the Rangatira Troop will spend the week-end in their hut on the Maungatapu. One section of the Anzac Troop will camp at Packer's Creek while another section will hike. The Pioneer Troop will camp at Brightwater. The Waimea Troop will camp in the Alaitai Reserve. The Alotueka Iroop will be on.a. mountain hike.

At the executive meeting last Monday five scoutmasters were presented with their theory certificates, thus completing Part 1 of the Scoutmasters’ Gilwell training course. Scoutmasters wishing to take this study should send in to tiic District Secretary no later than the 7th April.

ANZAC GROUP The 9th annual committee meeting was held last Monday, a veiy small number of parents being present The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows: —Chairman, Mr A. J. Weil 1 ; secretary and treasurer, Miss T. Skyring; delegate to the Nelson executive, Mr T. H. Wicks. Air K. Walker d'd not seek re-election as chairman. The annual report and balance sheet were read. The report showed that the group has a roll strength of 34 scouts and 17 cubs, and the continual improvement in efficiency and discipline is very encouraging. Mr Vincent Cox expressed his appreciation to the scout and cub officers for their untiring efforts. He was surprised at the lack of interest evidenced by the parents in the small attendance, and suggested that it was in the interests of their boys that they were asked to set aside one night a year for the annual meeting.The following committee members

Thp Tahunanui Troop is progressing steadily, and the roll is now eight. All were oil parade last Wednesday with Air Leighs. Two patrols have been formed, Wolves m charge of Patrol Leads.;. - Turner, and Kangaroos in- charge ox Patrol Leader Richards. R. Heath and E. Russell are acting as seconds. Scouts Richards, Heath and ‘Russell have passed all tests for second class badge. Scouts J. Ross, ,T. Henderson, G. .Mead and Anstice have passed the promise, law., and all knots, and have now completed the Tenderfoot test.

Instruction was given in Morse signalling with flags, and next month we hope to get in some practice pvjth lamps. All the hoys are keen and putting in some hard work. TAHUNANUI CUB PACK Last Wednesday 14 cubs were on parade with the C'.M: and A.C.Af. Tim roll strength is now 18. The new sixers and seconds are getting' settled down now and routine work being done, meiMy teaching new cubs knots, flag-, etc. We shall soon have some more one star and two star cubs. All' two star cubs arc putting in some good work on badges Alarka lire now being allot ted each week fop smartness. the points to count for monthly totem test.
