UNLUCKY MISSION
MISSING KETCH PATTERSON NO FURTHER NEWS (Bv Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. The auxiliary ketch Patterson, which was reported from Suva as missing, is the Melanesian Mission’s ship Patterson, which is on her maiden voyage from Sydney. She was built at Sydney at a cost of £2OOO, which was subscribed by friends of the Mission, including a large number in Auckland. A white crew was engaged at Sydney to take her to the Islands. She cleared Noumea on 21st March for Vila, and since then has not been heard of. When Southern Cross V. was recently broken up the Mission decided to replace her with a motor ship and an auxiliary. The motor ship was Southern Cross VI., winch was wrecked on Aneityuin Island while on her maiden voyage And the auxiliary is the Patterson.
