CROQUET TOURNAMENT
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Good progress was made during the third day’s play in the New Zealand croquet championships. At the start of play both the United and Cashmere greens were heavy, following overnight rain. Two light showers in the morning caused short interruptions, but the greens dried up well, and played fairly fast. Excellent progress was marie with the championship doubles, and the section was taken right to the semi-finals. The final will he played between Mrs Caldow and F. L. Hartnell, and Mesdamos Maddrcn and E. A. Smith. Results:—
Championship Doubles.—First <round Mrs Caldow and F. L. Hartnell defeat ed Mrs Scandrett and A. Rhodes Williams, 26-16.
Second round.—Mrs Caldow and F. L. Hartnell defeated 11. A. Penn and Mrs Bartlett. 26-16; Mcsdames Maddren and E. A. Smith defeated Mesdames Watkins and Anstis, 26-24; S. McCullough and Mrs Murray defeated Mesdames Burgess and Snowden, 26-18; A. G. F. Ross and Mrs Hadfield defeated Mesdames Acheson and Nottle, 26-3; 11. P. Stratton and Mrs Palmer defeated G. Hart and Mrs Buchler, 26-15. Third round. —E. J. Ross and Mrs Lowery defeated A. J. Gibbs and Mrs Clark, 26-24; Mrs Callow and F. L. Hartnell defeated H. J. Williams and Mrs Stallard, 26-10; Mesdames Maddren and T. A. Smith defeated McCullough and Mrs Murray, 26-12; 11. P. Stratton and Mrs Palmer defeated A. G. F. Ross and Mrs Hadfield, 26-17. Semi-final.—Mrs Caldow and F. L. Hartnell defeated E. J. Ross and Mrs Lowery, 26-2; Mesdames Maddren and E. A. Smith defeated H. P. Stratton and Mrs Palmer, - 26-20. Men’s Championship.—Second round : A. J. Gibbs 'defeated 11. J. Williams, 26-15.
Women’s Championship (first life). — First round: Mrs Bucher defeated Mrs Kibblewhite, 26-7; Mrs Walker defeated Mrs Stallard. 26-7; Mrs Gibbs defeated Mrs Acheson, 26-19; Mrs Corbett defeated Miss Bell, 26-4; Mrs Scandrett defeated Mrs Beanland, 26-5; Miss Ger-' rard defeated Mrs Hogan, 26-21; Mrs Clark defeated Mrs Lowery, 26-13; Mrs Anderson defeated Mrs Tucker, 26-19. Level Singles.—First round : Miss Collinson won by default from Mrs Allan Smith.
