Official circles approve of Sir Jolin Simon’s declaration in the House of Commons regarding Germany’s withdrawal frqm tlia Disarmament Conference. They are convinced of British sincerity in trying to find a just solution, to which Sir -John Simon’s visit to Paris and Rome and Sir Eric Phipps’s report to London are a great step. Nevertheless, Germany must insist on minimum safety, including an international reduction of aggressive weapons. FRIENDLY EXCHANGE OF VIEWS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 22nd December. Sir John Simon, on bis way through Paris to Capri for tlie Christmas holidays, took the opportunity of visiting M- Cl.autemps and M. Boneour, with whom he lunched in company- with several members of the French Government. Tile French and British Ministers iiad a full and friendly exchange of views on international questions. In particular they discussed together the prospects of an agreement in view of a resumption of the Disarmament Conference, and recognised the importance of maintaining the authority of the League of Nations.
