HAWKES BAY FRUIT
INDEPENDENT SHIPAIENTS GROWERS ENDORSE PETITION [By Telegraph—Press Association] HASTINGS, 21st December. A petition is being circulated among fruit growers throughout llawkes Bay, the purport of which is to allow tho district to ship its fruit with freedom, adopt a llawkes Bay label, load as much fruit as possible at Napier, and permit f.o.b. sales.
The petition, which has been signed by more than 70 per cent, of the exporters in the district, was discussed at a largely attended meeting of growers this evening. The belief was expressed by some speakers that those Klio- had signed realised that the adoption of the proposals meant elimination of the board from llawkes Bay. The meeting decided to sponsor tho petition and to meet local ‘ representatives of the Fruit Control Board to-mor-row with a view to coming to some conciliatory understanding.
