COMMITTEE’S RECOMMENDATIONS ACCEPTED ANNUAL GRANT BY BRITAIN (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 20th December. Tile Prime Minister stated in Parliament that the British Government and the Indian Government have agreed to accept the recommendations of the advisory tribunal which reported in January regarding the question of payments made by India for the :ec:".i.t neiit ard training of British militTy and Air Force personnel on the Indian establishment, and also India’s counter-claim that the British Government should make contributions towards the cost of the defence of India. Where the tid-una! was not unanimous the Government will act upon a majority recommendation. The Prime Minister said this involved acceptance by the Government of India of capitatioii. changes calculated in accordance with the tribunal's suggestion as a legitimate charge on Indian revenue. Oil the other hand to India of a grant from British revenue was accepted. The amount of this grant would be £1,500.000 annually. This would include an annual subsidy of £130,000 hitherto paid from the Army funds towards the cost ol the transport of British troops to and from India, a continuance of whicli was one of the matters referred to the tribunal.
