WAIAU RIVER FATALITY

MRS BOYLE’S BODY FOUND

CHRISTCHURCH, This Hay. The body of Mrs Rose Boyle, wife of Mr A. P. Bovle, who had been missing since* Friday ‘when she disappeared after bathing in the Waiau river, was found about 35 miles downstream from the place where she is believed to have been drowned. The inquest was opened and adjourned. The inquest was resumed this morning when the husband, Mr A. P. .Boyle, stock agent, gave evidence that since the birth of a child four months ago deceased had been suffering from insomnia. Later she had been in a rest home in Cashmere, where she was pronounced cured, but on the advice of a doctor witness took her to Hanmer where she was perfectly normal. Witness had no cause for anxiety. On Thursday, 23rd November, they were bathing with others at Marble Point, Waiau river. Witness and deceased bathed there the next day. After a bathe she walked away and he did not see her again. It was possible that she had slipped on a rock and fallen in the stream.

The coroner, Mr H. P. Lawry, returned a verdict of accidental death. bjr drowning.
