VICTORY FOR WINOOKA ONRUSH EASILY BEATEN MUDDY TRACKS iTJi'itsd PreßS Association—By Electric Teleeraph—Copyright) SEATTLE, 16th September. Winooka beat Onrush by three lengths over a muddy six furlongs, the time being 1.14. Winooka started favourite. Rain had turned the racecourse into a quagmire. Onrush took the lead for the first sixteenth, and then Winooka raced with Onrush for the first furlong. Britt then moved into a short lead with the Australian horse. Turning into the home stretch Winooka was first by three lengths, winning easily. Onrush is not a mud horse, being unable to keep up. Winooka was warmly acclaimed after the finish. Eight thousand were present, adverse weather reducing the attendance. The “New York Times” racing editor says: “The victory of Winooka is pleasing to Eastern racing observers. The performance demonstrated that Winooka can negotiate bad tracks as well as fast ones. The hope is expressed that ho will he given an opportunity to race in the fields of quality which made him the Australian champion. As yet the horse has had no opportunity to prove his championship calibre.” The “Seattle Rost” says that Winooka could have won by ten'lengths if Britt had so desired.
