STERLING BLOC
SUGGESTION TO BRITAIN BY PROFESSOR CASSEE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 19th August. Professor Gustav Cassel in an article in the “Svenska Dagbladet” declared that Britain should form a sterling bloc together with the dominions and other countries willing to join. Such a step is necessary if still wishes to exercise any kind of economic leadership over Scandinavian countries. South America and probably Japan would join the group, which would arrange for the moderate raising and the subsequent stabilisation of price levels. Such a measure might attract also gold countries, and ultimately form a basis for the stabilisation of international exchange rates.
