AVIATION IN RUSSIA
RAPID DEVELOPMENT (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MOSCOW, 18th August. The ’whole of Russia is celebrating Aviation Day, the fifteenth anniversary of the formation of the Red Air Force. The Soviet awarded many decorations and charters to workers and directors in the industry and the military forces Aircraft ’was exhibited in gardens and parks to tho accompaniment of torchlight processions. Several flying schools were opened, and streets were decorated with model aeroplanes and posters announcing that during the four years of the first five year plan the number of aeroplanes increased threefold and the- tonnage fivefold. Air lines cover 22500 miles. Voroshilov declares that Russia intends to aerially outstrip the leading capitalist countries.
