ANNUAL BALL AND CHILDREN'S PARTY This annual function to raise funds to assist the Plunket Society to carry out its splendid work among the ! women and children of the city and district will be held in the Velma Hall ,on Saturday next, and promises to be a great success. The children’s party this year is advertised as a “Mad Hatter -Party” and is already causing much interest among the children. Excellent prizes for this function have been donated by citizens for the ‘prettiest, most original, and most comical hat, also for the best fancy dress. The committee has evidence that there will be good competitions for the prizes. Regarding the ball no effort is being spared to make this an outstanding success. First class music lias been secured and a sumptuous home-made slipper will lie provided. I Tfid committee ; are. satisfied that it 'most enjoyable evening at a low charge will be forthcoming.
I The good work of tlie Plunket Society in New Zealand in the interests of the mother and child, is now universally recognised and appreciated. The demands made upon the society controlling this city and district has practically doubled itself in the past few years, and has required increased expenditure. Every penny that is raised goes to provide the efficient nursing service on which so many mothers rely. For the party a number of special items will be given by some tiny tots who are being trained for the function by Miss B. Aydon. Tickets can he obtained at the booksellers and arrangements have been made for buses to leave Richmond at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday and patrons are advised to book seats early.
