MALARIA OUTBREAK
EPIDEMIC FORM DANGER IN CALCUTTA (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 19th August, 9.10 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 18th August. What the Health authorities describe as a state of emergency exists in Calcutta owing to the continued advance on the city of a mosquito which is a carrier of malignant malaria. Two years ago as the result of a similar warning a large area of the outskirts of the city was sprayed with an insecticide both by hand and by aeroplane. It was hoped to keep the mosquito from breeding outside, but it is now reported to have penetrated the city confines, and there is grave danger of a malaria outbreak in epidemic form.
