GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MRS JOSEPH TAYLOR
To-day Mr and Mrs Joseph Taylor, of Cambria street. Nelson, ’ arc celebrating their golden .wedding. They have resided in this district since they arrived from England in 1394. As a professional geologist and mining engineer, Mr Taylor has had much to do and say in regard to mining and minerals throughout Nelson and New Zealand—gold, coal, iron, slate, etc.— and has made discoveries of economic importance. About 30 years ago he published a pamphlet outlining “A Ship Canal Scheme for the improvement, of Nelson Harbour and City.” As a pioneer in aviation, he designed and patented over 20 years ago what was then known s “Taylor’s Combination Airship,” including several distinct types of aircraft; which he maintains are still intact and valid as concerns main features, and are bound yet to eom e into requisition. Air Taylor has long been known as an author, and as a teacher and lecturer, in connection with both science and philosophy; dealing with such subjects as geology, principles of mining, astronomy, natural astrology, seismology, psychology and absolute philosophy. In a pamphlet on “Sun spots and solar physics,” Mr Taylor years ago outlined some of his own discoveries in astronomy; which he claimed to be of fundamental importance to both astronomy and general physics, including the discovery of' (he cause of gravitation. That was in 1913. Til many of his more recently published writings hj claims to have proved the astronomic origin of all great or destructive storms and. floods and tidal waves; and contends that, they may and should he officially predicted to save much avoidable loss. One of his publications in 1909 was entitled “Personal Psychic Experiences and the- Higher Spiritualism,” and it gave “Autobiographical notes outlining the Spiritual Evolution of an Absolutist” being one of many lectures in “the Universal Institute” which Mr Taylor started. While strongly opposed to Pantheism and Agnosticism, it showed the decidedly Autologieal and inseetarian or universal character of the teaching. “Principles of Absolute Philosophy” was the title of a pamphlet published by Mr Taylor in Nelson in 1902; and it had been preceded by another published in England in January 1894, entitled “Elements of Absolutism,
or Personal Divinity, the Proper Fruition of Faith and Philosophy.” The definition, exposition, elaboration and propagation of Absolutism, or of Absolute Science and Philosophy Mr Taylor regards as the most important work of his life.
