REBUFF FOR “REDS”
BRITISH LABOUR MANIFESTO %
LONDON, 30th March.
Replying to the Communist party’s proposal fpr a united front, the Labour party has issued a manifesto repudiating every type of dictatorship, and affirming* its faith in democracy and its belief in the attainment of socialism peacefully. The manifesto declares that reaction on the right bred reaction, on the left, and that democracy was shattered by the machine gun, and the ballot destroyed by the bullet in Germany, Italy, Poland, Hungary, and elsewhere.
British Labour led the world in tlio claim for industrial democracy and demand for political democracy. “The British working class, united in a fundamental faith, can stem the reverse reaction,” says the manifesto. “If Brfitish workers hesitate between majority and minority rule, toying with the idea either of a Fascist or Communist dictatorship,- they will descend to a servitude never previously suffered. “British Labour must rally its scattered forces, and’ by firm discipline and loyal adherence to its fundamental faith show”the world the peaceful path to Socialism.” ...
Labour, following the manifesto, is instituting an active campaign against the propaganda in which the Independent Labourites and Communists are uniting.
