GOLD PROSPECTING
AMONG THE UNEMPLOYED Under the No. 5 gold subsidy scheme twelve unemployed men left Nelson for Wangapeka yesterday, lliere are now 23 men prospecting in this field, where the first camp is being established at the junction of the Wangapeka and Rolling rivers. The men will first be employed in cutting a track, and will then be placed on claims. A further 12 men will be placed on the 13th inst., followed by 12 more on the 15th inst. A party of 24 men left Nelson this morning for the Collingwood district to go on similar work. The men are a good type and seemed quite pleased to get away from the larger centres. Under the schemejnarried men receive 30s a week, and single men 15s. If necessary, tents and tools are supplied.
