Messrs Harry Manoy, J. Y. C. Maxwell, J. Balck, B. T. Rowling and Col. Brereton, members of the deputation appointed by the executive of the Motueka District tobacco growers at the meeting held on Saturday evening to proceed to Wellington, will leave by tonight’s boat to wait on the Prime Minister on Thursday. Captain W. H. Hartman, commander of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s liner Akaroa, has been appointed Marine Superintendent at Wellington for the company in succession to the late Captain W. A. R. Kershaw.—Press Association.

The funeral of Mrs B. J. Hudson which took place at St, Barnabas Church, Stoke, on Monday, was largely attended, many people coming long distances, particularly from Tapawera where deceased and her late husband resided for some years—to pay their last respects to one who had endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact. Archdeacon J. R-. Dart conducted the graveside service, assisted by the Rev. J. G. S. Bartlett and the Rev. Donald Haultain.

General regret will be felt at the passing at the early age of 14 years of Albert Edgar Ninnes, eldest son of Mr and .Mrs ,H Ninnes, Mount street. Deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him. The funeral which took place yesterday afternoon was largely attended Nelson College, the Methodist Church, Sunday School and Bible Class and the Juvenile branch of the 1.0. R. with which the deceased had been connected were all strongly represented. Among those present were the Principal of Nelson College (Mr C. 11. Broad), the head prefect (W. H. Bryant) and other' scholars. A number of College boys also formed a Guard of Honour at the Cemetery gates. The pall-bearers were Mewis F Mitchell, S. S. Collier, H. Barlt-rop, H. Sharp, R. Best, R. Mayson, W. H. Bryant and D. W. Oxnam. In the absence.from Nelson of the Rev. W. Burley the Rev. James Hay officiated at the graveside.

Acceding to the unanimous request of tlie Gisborne Borough Council, Mr David William Coleman, M.P., has accepted nomination for the Mayoralty.— Press Association.
