ON THE RANGE

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP H. FRANK WINS BELT FOR 1933 GOOD SHOOTING ON MOTUEKA RANGE The annual Nelson District Rifle Association Championship Meeting was fired on the Motueka range on Saturday. The weather conditions were not of the most favourable, but in spite of occasional showers the shooting was well up to standard and the day’s outing was enjoyed by all the riflemen who participated. The Championship Belt was won by 11. Frank (Nelson Defence Club) after very keen competition, the issue being in doubt up to the final shoot off. Before firing the final 10 shots at 600 yards F. IT. Sharland, the winner at the last two championship meetings, was one point ahead with a total of 190, with Frank 189, and W. A. Kenning 186. The result of the final shoot placed Frank level with F. 11. Sharland, each having 235 points. It was then necessary to fire off the tie, 5 shots at 60 yards. Frank with 24 points proved the winner, and thus gained the belt for 1933.

The belt was presented by Mr R. J. York, Mayor of Motueka, who heartily congratulated the winner and the runnerup on their fine shooting. Mr F. 11. Sharland as president of the Association, and as runner up, also congratulated the winner on his fine performance. Mr Sharland also expressed the thanks of the Association to Major Jamieson, who ably carried out tire duties of Trench officer-, and to Mr R.. Hunter who as range officer put in a deal of valuable work during the day. He also thanked the Motueka Defence Rifle Club for Ifie use of its range and equipment, and expressed the hope that it would not be long before another championship meeting was held at Motueka. The honorary secretary and his assistant- carried out their duties in the most able manner, and the meeting went off without any hitch. SERVICE! SHOOT MATCH NO. 1 (10 Rounds Rapid) Name Score.
