BOWLING

LEAPER SHIELD WON BY NELSON CLUB After an interval of ten years the Nelson Club secured a win over the Maitai Club for the Lnaper Shield, the holders being defeated on Saturday by a margin of 11. Originally there were (wo competitions between (lie Nelson and Maitai clubs, viz., the Pennant, for first selected players, and the' Lea per Shield, for second selected players. Tim Pennant games were discontinued in the year 1921-22 and in its place a 12-rink-a-side adopted for the Lcaper Shield. The 1921-22 competition was won by the Nelson Club, and 1 his club again won the Shield the following year, beading their opponents in each of the four games played. In 1923-24 the Maitai Club got its first, win, and until lasi Saturday remained unbeaten—a very line record. A change of ownership will no doubt add interest to the competition.
