PROGRAMME OF IMPROVEMENTS borough council approves At the last meeting of the Picton Borough Council the Progress and i Beautifying Society submitted for j approval extensive plans for the j further improvement of the l'ore-j shore, the programme being set out i as follows: — ( The present wall to he continued in! a westerly direction for a further 1100 1 feet. Upon the completion of the] Jill, the area to he top-dressed with soil and sown down in grass. The beach, niter being levelled out and j cleaned, to he covered with sand. The bench, after being levelled out and cleaned, to he covered with sand. The sand to lie punted from the Sounds, as carried out last year. The provision of further seating accommodation on the Foreshore, and additional playing facilities for the children. The Society stated that, it believed this work wotfld have the liearty ■support of the Council and the townspeople as a whole, and, to enable the programme to he carried out, requested that the Borough Engineer be given authority to take full charge and that sufficient unemployed men he made available for the work. As the maintenance of the work carried out last year was hemming an urgent matter, permission to have an unemployed man mow the grass was sought. The .Mayor .said the proposed improvements would he carried out without expense to the Council, the only concession asked for being that the work to he undertaken by the unemployed men under the supervision of the Borrough Engineer. Councillor E. E. Gahagan moved that the requests of the Progress Society be granted. This was seconded bv Councillor Brcayley, and the motion was carried unanimously.
