REFUSAL TO WORK OVERTIME

LYTTELTON WATERSIDERS (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Last evening the waterside workers employed in loading the Federal steamer Cambridge at Lyttelton refused to work overtime unless paid at the old rates. Shortly after 4 o’clock the men were told that they would he required to work overtime. At 4.30 o’clock they told a representative of the agents for the vessel that they would not work overtime unless paid at the old rates. It was pointed out to them that their own federation had agreed that- the work should proceed as usual under the old conditions, but under the new rates of pay, while the conference is sitting, but Ihe men definitely refused to work after 5 o’clock.
