WEATHER IN AUGUST
A FINE MONTH AVERAGE DAILY SUNSHINE 7 HOURS 40 MINUTES The weather during August was generally fine, with an absence of wind. There were many days with over 9 hours of bright sunshine, while the rainfall was spread over a few days. In the last week of the month a stormy period, which was general throughout the Dominion, was experienced, snow falling on the Maungalapu last Monday. The rainfall for the month totalled •2.51 iii., compared with 3.43 in. for the corresponding month of 1931. For the year to date the rainfall lias been 21.59** in., compared with 19.58 in. for the first eight months of 1931. The bright sunshine recorded at the Cawtliron Meteorological Station totalled 2331irs 50min, an average of 7hrs 40miii daily. In August of last year 2041irs 35min were recorded.
