COMING SESSION

PREPARATIONS IN HAND PROSPECTIVE LEGISLATION “Cabinet’s work will be well forward Tor the commencement of the next session of Parliament, which will probably open about the middle of September,” stated the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) in reply to a question yesterday as to the forwardness of the Government’s preparations for the session. He added that Departments of State had been requested to have their reports ready for presentation when Parliament opened, and he hoped that the' House would get down to consideration of the Estimates without loss of time, clearing a good deal of formal business out of tlie way before the return to New Zealand of the Ottawa delegation. Asked if there would he a great deal of legislation to introduce, Mr Forbes stated that there might be some measures arising out of the report of the National Expenditure Commission, which was at present under consideration by Cabinet. Many of the recommendations, of course, would affect- the Estimates. Then there might he Bills bearing on decisions at tlie Ottawa Conference. Mr Forbes did not anticipate that there would he a great deal of legislation on other matters but- he indicated that the long delayed consolidation of the Companies Act and its amendments might be attempted, though lie was not aware bow far the preparation of the Bill bad proceeded. Asked if the Goyernment contemplates taking any action in connection with the question of wheat importations, The Prime Minister stated definitely that no legislation would he brought down affecting the present duties, which would stand.
