BLENHEIM SALE Very fortunately for those with sheep to dispose of, one of the smallest yard- ] ings of the season was entered for the weekly sale at the Blenheim yards on Wednesday afternoon (reports the “Express”). * A blustery-southerly, with heavy rain, had been blowing throughout tlie morning, and although little rain fell during the actual sale tho attendance was very small and comprised buyers only. Among the 239 fat sheep offered were some really prime ewes and wethers, and although prices were about on a par with those received at the previous sale, when values were from Is firmer, superior quality sheep naturally secured prices iii proportion. I 1 at ewes fetched from 7s 7d for a light medium quality pen up to 13s Id for an exceptionally prime maiden ewe. Air T. Higgins, of tieddon, had a number of very line lines for sale, and his prices were 9s 3d, 9s 10d, 10s, 10s 3d, and 11s. A feature of the wether offering was an entry of some exceptionally well-finished lines on account of Air W. Brownlee, of Havelock Suburban. The prices received rail from 13s Id to 12s 7d. Other pens brought from 8s lid for unfinished specimens, up to 10s 9d. ■ The average price was in the neighbourhood of 10s. Ewe and wether hoggets mainly composed the store department. These were on the small side, and one pen of wethers was knocked down at 6s 6d and a pen of ewes at 6s. ADDINGTON MARKET (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, 28th July. A feature of the Addington market was the heavy consignments from the North Island, Ota'go, and the West Coast in the fat cattle section and the heavy supply of fat sheep, constituting a record and including drafts from Otago and Southland. There was a mixed entry of store sheep, with useful ewes. There was little life in the market. Prices maintained late rates. Values were: Medium 4 and 6-tli threequarterbred ewes to 15s Id, ordinary 4 and 6-th halfbred to 12s, ordinary 2-tli threequarterbred to 13s, good S.m. halfbred to 12s Id, ordinary s.m. halfbred 9s 4d to 9s 6d, s. and f.m. 6s, medium wetlier lambs 7s 7d to Bs. There was an.entry of 2400 fat lambs, including many good quality butcher sorts. Prices, were hack Is per head and medium back 3s per head on late rates. Values were: Extra prime lambs to 18s 7d; prime 13s to 16s 6d, medium 9s to 12s 6d, light 6s 6d to 8s 6d. An entry of 460 head of fat cattle included 122 head from the North Island and about 50 from the West Coast, Otago, and Southland. It was a very erratic sale, hut the market for ready prime was better than at the preceding week’s market. Sixty head of North Island steers averaged £ll 10. Heifers and cows from Gisborne brought £8 and £7 respectively. Best beef made up to 27s 6d per 1001bs., 'good 22s to 25s 6d, heavy to 235, secondary 17s 6d to 20s, inferior 15s fo 17s 6d, and rough down to 13s. ARilues were: Extra prime heavy steers to £l2 17s, prime heavy £9 to £9 10s, prime mediumweight £7 5s to £9, medium quality £5 5s to £6 15s, ilght to £5, extra prime heifers to £lO 7s 6d, prime £7 to £8 10s, medium £5 to £6 10s, light to £4 15s, extra prime cows to £9 17s 6d, prime £6 5s to £7 15s, medium £4 to £6, light to £3 10s. There-was an entry of 8200 fat sheep and a steady demand was maintained, the rates showing a decline of Is to 2s per head for ewes and 2s per head for wethers. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to 17s 10d, prime heavy 15s 6d to 17s, prime mediumweight 13s 6d to 15s, ordinary 11s to 13s, light 8s 6d to 10s, extra prime, heavy ewes to 15s 7d, prime heavy 11s to 13s 6d, prime mediumweight 9s to 10s 6d, ordinary 5s 6d to 8s 6d, light 3s to ss. Fat pigs showed a medium entry. The demand was fair. Late rates were maintained. .1 Values were: Choppers £2 10s to £5 6s, baconers 47s 6d to 54s 6d, heavy £3 to £3 Bs, extra heavy to £3 16s 6d, average price per lb 4£d to sd.
