BIG LOSS AT TOLAGA BAY FIVE SHOPS AND A BILLIARD SALOON DESTROYED (By Telegraph—Press Association) GISBORNE, This Day. ~. Five shops and a billiard room were destroved as the result of a fire early this morning at Tolaga Bay. The outbreak was discovered soon after 2 o’clock in the shop of R. J. Knox, tailor. It then had a firm hold and swept through the premises of Messrs Colebrook and Taylor, storekeepers, H. R. Littleworth, stationer, P. Hickev restaurant keeper, A. D. Hollis, solicitor, and a billiard saloon. Tile origin of the fire is unknown for certain, but it is thought to have commenced in a dry cleaning plant in Knox’s premises. Details of the insurances are not available at present. BLAZE AT DUNEDIN RESIDENCE OF TWENTY ROOMS GUTTED DUNEDIN, 19th June. A two-storied wooden residence of about (10 rooms, owned and occupied by Athol Duke, butcher, was totally destroyed by fire this afternoon. The building stood on one of the most commanding residential sites in Littlebourne overlooking the city. The strenuous efforts of the brigade could not save the building, which was completely gutted. A few odd items of furniture were saved. The outbreak is thought to have started in the kitchen, and the flames, fanned bv heavy gusts of wind, had a strong hold when the brigade arrived. Details of the insurances have not been ascertained.

A CHRISTCHURCH BLAZE BILLIARD SALOON AND DWELLING DESTROYED CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Damage estimated at £IOOO was caused by fire in Lincoln road early this morning in David : Brown’s block of buildings. A billiard saloon and a. fiveroomed dwelling owned and occupied by. W. A. Painter D’Oridant were destroyed. Other shops suffered minor damage. The cause of the fire is unknown.
