FRANCE’S GOLD HOARD
REMARKABLE POSITION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 18th June, 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, 17th June. The “Daily Telegraph’s” financial editor says that France is now in a remarkable position, having her banknote circulation covered to the extent of nearly 100 per cent. American bankers view with satisfaction the removal of the last of France’s dollar holdings in New York, but it is doubtful if French bankers are equally pleased, as the influx of gold has not improved the economic situation. The gold hoard in France is now £647,793,536.
