MIGRANT UNEMPLOYED
DISCRIMINATION ALLEGED LONDON, 21st April. Insisting once more that there was no discrimination in either Australia or Canada between native-born and migrant unemployed, the Dominions Secretary, Mr J, 11. Thomas, informed Mr J. McGovern (Labour, Shcttleston) that it was impossible to stale the number of migrants unemployed in Australia and Canada. Mr McGovern: “Are steps taken to keep a record of the number” ? Mr Thomas: “Tl’s not my business.” Mr McGovern: “Does Mr Thomas think it desirable to encourage the sending of children to a country teeming with unemployment?” Mr Thomas: “That question does not arise. No society is doing better work in the selection and care of children than the Child Migration Society, which administers Eairbridge (West Australia).”
