The death occurred recently at Takaka of Mr. Frank Robertson, of Anatimo, at the age of 85 years. The deceased, who was an old and respected settler of the Golden Bay district, arrived in New Zealand from England in 1873 under engagement to an English company to erect blast furnaces for the purpose of smelting the iron ore deposits at Ferntown, Collmgwood. The company however, went into liquidation, hut Mr Robertson decided to remain in the district. He followed the occupation of a blacksmith, and later engaged in sawmilling, eventually settling, on the land. Older residents of the Bav will remember that for some year Mr Ttobertson was driver of the locomotive which ran between East Takaka and the, Waitapu wharf in the old timber milling days. He is survived by a widow and a family of nine sons and three daughters.
