RIVERSIDE TENNIS CLUB NEW COURTS OPENED . On Saturday afternoon the Riverside Tennis Club’s now courts were officially opened by Mr Eric Trevena in the presence of a good gathering of members and visitors. Mr Goodver (president of the Club) after extending a hearty welcome to the visitors, called up Mr Trevena to open the courts.

Mr Trevena congratulated the club on its enterprise and said that tlie formation of such courts marked another milestone in the progress of the district. The courts would be an admirable avenue for recreation and the promoters’ efforts in providing a clean and healthy sport were exemplary. He wished the president,, officials and members every success for the future prosperity of their club. Mr Trevena then called upon Mrs Goodyer (the president’s wife) to serve the first ball, which was received by Miss Joan Ryder (secretary of the clubj. Lady members provided and dispensed an excellent afternoon tea and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent by all present. The site on which the courts are constructed adjoins the croquet lawns and the Memorial Park and constitutes part of the Campbell Trust property. A sublease of the site- was obtained by tlie Riverside Tennis Club from the Croquet Club. Many weeks of labour were, spent in building up the section with spoil and preparing it for the final surface of emulsified bitumen. Mr 11. Goodall supervised the foundation work and Messrs Chamberlain and Stannard, Nelson, were responsible for the laying of the asphalt. .The playing area, a well surfaced double court, is enclosed by wire netting, supported on galvanised pipe standard. The undertaking lias cost approximately > £220, and a boggy and unattractive section, has thus been turned into a place of fine appearance, where a health giving sport can be indulged in by the young people. More work has yet to he done in tlie way of erecting club buildings, .etc.
