PUBLIC ACCOUNTS

THREE MONTHS’ FIGURES

(By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Dav. The public accounts for the first three months of this financial year are published in a supplementary “Gazette.” Commenting on the figures the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes said it would be seen that the revenue of the Consolidated Fund for the period amounted to £3,814,724, compared with £4,172,123 fob the corresponding period of last financial year. A considerable shrinkage of revenue had been anticipated for this financial year, and the receipts for the three months, while not altogether? an accurate guide to the year’s position, certainly indicated heavy reductions in revenue, and the estimates were justified.

The Prime Minister added that expenditure for the three months totalled £5,550,062, compared with £5,563,742 for the corresponding period last year. Expenditure in general was within the proportion of the estimates.
