PRICE OF BARLEY
MR E. F. lIEALA’S REPRESENTATIONS In the House to-day, Mr E. F. Ilealy (U., Wairau) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister whether it was his intention at an early date to impose a. dumping duty on Australian feed barley imported into New Zealand? It was reported, lie said, that Australian feed barley was arriving in largo quantities at Auckland. It, was sold at Is 6d per bushel, f.0.b., Australian ports, and was leaving Canterbury, Otago, and Marlborough growers with largo stocks of season’s grain unsaleable. Mr Jleuly aslo asked tho Minister for Agriculture whether lie. would in the interests of Waikato dairy farmers and fowl raisers have immediate enquiries made into the difference between the buying price of feed barley in Marlborough and tho selling prico at Port Waikato or Taupiri. A Waikato dairy farmer recently visited Marlborough and found lie could purchase in five sack lots or over firstclass feed barley at 2s per bushel, plus lOd freight, whereas the lowest quotation lie could get in Jtis district was 4s plus lOd freight.
