REPLY TO CRITICISM STATEMENT BY MINISTER (By Telograph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. A comprehensive review of the work of the Department of Industries and Commerce in promoting the sale and purchase of New /.calami made goods and otherwise assisting local industries, was made by tlie lion. P. A. do la Per iv 11c in reply to recent crithism levelled by members of the. House of Representatives. Concluding a lengthy statement lie said he desired to reiterate that much of the work .of the Department, was of a confidential nature, and ccn,.e mcni ly could not he made public. For this reason the Department had received much ri'iticisin in the past which was entirely unfair and unwarranted. Every reasonable assistance had lmen given bv the Department, to the manufacturing industries of tho Dominion. During the past, year proposals Tor tho establishment of several new industries had been fully investigated, particularly from the point of view of providing profitable employment for men now unemployed, and every possible assistance had been freely given.
