MISSING PROSPECTOR
SEARCH PARTY ON MOUNT OWEN Mr Albert Darwin Bromell who left Tui on 18th June, alone on a prospecting expedition on Mount Owen, has not yet been heard of. Although the missing man had a rifle, axe, compass and a month’s supply of stores, those who know the locality hold out little hope for his safety as the country is very treacherous with pot holes 20 feet deep and is at present covered with up to 15 feet of snow. A search party comprising the missing man’s brothers, Mr Charles Boyd and Mr E. S. Merrick, of Nelson, were delayed since last week-end by the unfavourable weather conditions in that district, but hope to set out from Wangapeka for six days in the mountains.
Mr Bromell intended to go through the pass of Mount Owen (0400 feet), to Nuggety Creek and then on to the headwaters of the Owen Valley.
