COMPENSATION ACT
DISABILITIES OF RELIEF WORKERS The disabilities which relief workers suffer under the provisions of the Workers’ Compensation Act in the case of accident have been raised in the House by Mr J. O’Brien (Lab., Westland), who says if the Government does not amend the Act during the current session the Labour Party will introduce a Bill for this pui-pose. Mr O’Brien gave notice to-day to ask the Minister for Labour if he would amend the Act to allow relief and shorttime workers to receive full compensation commensurate with what they would have received on full time. A married man on relief work, Mr O’Brien explained, would now receive £4 19s 8d per month in ease of accident, and a single man £1 16s per month. _lf a married man were killed by accident his widow and children v/ould receive only one-third of the £IOOO intended by the Act. Mi* O’Brien stated later that the Labour Leader aud himself had the proposed Bill in hand, if the Government did not act.
