The first round matches for the Victorian amateur golf championship were remarkable for the defeat of the -veteran A. Jackson by the sixteen-year-old golfer Hal Williams, who gave an exhibition that was first class, outdriving his opponent off practically every tee, and playing his irons with mechanical accuracy, winning by four and three. After a great struggle at the 37th, F. Bulte eliminated tho former open champion, lvo Whilton, at the final hole. Sloan Morpeth defeated L. McPherson 5 and 3.
