AUSTRALIAN TOURING TEAM A STRONG SIDE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 4th August. Afttr a number of conferences the Rugby Union selectors have ‘ chosen twenty-five players for the New Zealand tour as follows: Full-backs, A. Ross and J. St. Eggall; wing .three-quarters, W. Hemmingway, 11. Tolhurst, B. Palmer; centre three-quarters, C. Towers, P. Clark, 11. Herd; five-eighths, D Cowper, IT. Primrose; half-backs, S. Malcolm, G. Bennett; forwards, (front row) W. Cerutti, E. Bonis, M. M. Blair, J Ritter, E. Love; second row, F. Wyatt, B. Judd, M. White; locks, F. Reville, T. Perrin; breakaways, J. Clark, Palfreyman, 0. Bridle. The average age of the team is 23 years. The backs average list 71bs in weight and the forwards 13st 7ibs. Malcolm is captain. Three States have secured the following representation: New South Wales, 14: Queensland, 9; Victoria 2.
The selectors have concentrated on the judicious selection of experience and youth, with the result that the team is regarded as a strong one and likely to give a good account of itself. The Queenslander Lindsay would have been selected but for an injury sustained last Saturday.
