j PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION j At the monthly meeting of the Stoke Progressive Association, Mr Pickup presided over a good attendance of members. A letter was read from the Hon. 11. Atmore, stating that he had the Stoke Water Board Bill in hand; also one from the County Council saying that the Engineer had been instructed to report on the matter of erecting posts at the Turf corner, and straightening the bend in the road at the Wakatu railway crossing. ! A report was received from the Government Analyst in connection with the samples of water from Boorman’s Valley. The report staled that the water was of good quality and quite satisfac- , tory for domestic use. ! It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Allport and Heath, that the Automobile Association be written to asking for support in the matter of getling the bend in the road straightened at Wakatu railway crossing. Mr Pickup reported on the recent visit of members of the Association, in company with the County Chairman and the Engineer to Boorman’s Valley to inspect the proposed site for a reservoir. It was decided on the motion of Messrs Grant and Biggar that the County Council be written to asking for the extension of the footpath on the main road as far as Parker’s load, as this would provide suitable work for the unemployed; A discussion ensued on the electric light question. Members were unanimous in condemning tlie Boulder Lake scheme. It was pointed out that sufficient power could be obtained at a low cost from the Wairoa Gorge to supply the district until such time as the Cowan scheme came into being Thin Hair!
