An emergency meeting of the Nelson lineinpioymeiil Committee was held on Wednesday. There were present : Messrs t; 1,, I’age (chairman), J. Glasgow, \V. ,| Moffalt. I l ’. W. Hug-fins, 11. Kidson, and M. Ross. A scheme which was proposed hv a Nelson citizen who desires to remain anonymous was considered by the Commit tec. The citizen ’proposed that lie and nine oilier citizens of Nelson should (ind the sum of £IOOO to temporarily carry on No. 5 Scheme, and it, was suggested that the following telegram lie sent to the Prime Minister, Wellington: “If Nelson citizens provide money approximately £IOOO to keoj) No. 5 Scheme going for fortnight from 20th June, will Government guarantee repayment without interest, within six weeks?” Tho telegram was dispatched at 3.30 p.ni. and at 5.30 p.m. tho following reply was received: “Your telegram received. Wliolo question of unemployment is at present, receiving consideration of Cabinet.” A. further telegram from the Unfcmployment Board was received at 8.30 p.m. yesterday by the Department of Labour: "Temporary continuation Scheme 5 after 20lh decided, therefore your estimate for week ended 2711 i approved.” The Committee asks that all men who are employed under this scheme and are due for employment next week proceed to work as usual.
