TENNIS AT WIMBLEDON

SEEDING IN THE SINGLES (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 17th June. Those seeded in the men’s singles at Wimbledon are as follows:—Sydney B. Wood and Frank X. Shields (Americans), 11. Cochot, (J. Boussus, and J. Borotra (France), E. J. Perry and 11. W. Austin (England), and Satoh (Japan). The New Zealander C. E. Malfroy was not seeded. He is included in Wood’s section of the draw.

Sydney' B. Wood, 20 years of age, reached the semi-final of the American singles championship last year, and the third round at Wimbledon in 1928. He won important singles championships last season, beating J. M. Lott, F. N., Shields, and W. Allison. Frank Xavier Shields reached the final of the American singles last year, and won the New York and Delaware State championships. x Frank Perry has reached the last sixteen at Wimbledon, and represented Britain in a team which visited North and South America.

SEEDED PLAYERS IN WOMEN’S SINGLES (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 17th June. This is the first time since full seeding has been in operation in the Wimbledon men’s singles that two Englishmen have been among tlio select eight. In the women’s singles the seeded players are Misses Nuttall and Mudfnn'l, and Airs Whittingstall (Britain), Fraulein Aussem and Krahwinkei (Germany), Madame Mathieu (France, Miss Jacobs (America) and Senorita ' Dalvaruz (Spain).

WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL TEAMS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 17tli June. In the women’s international tennis at Eastbourne to-day Britain defeated France, winning all six matches. (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 18th June. In the second day’s play in the women’s international lawn tennis mulch against France at Eastbourne. Brilain again won all the singles and doubles matches. During the two days encounter Britain won by twelve mulches to love.
