STOKE
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION A well attended meeting of the Stoke Progressive Association was presided over by Mr H. Pickup. A discussion took place as to reservoir heights and varying water presures. The unanimous opinion was expressed that there was a great supply of water for all the future needs of the Stoke District. A Water Board would in all probability be set up in the near future and a water scheme gone on with. Details of the scheme would be collected in readiness to put before the ratepayers when the Bill now before Parliament was passed. A member of the Association drew attention to the shocking state of the Quarantine Road. This is a boundary road and those bodies concerned should share the expense of putting this road in good repair at once. A resolution that the Waimea County Council be asked to take over the maintenance of the 'uarantine road was passed. Another resolution was passed asking the Waimea. County Council to put a curbing at the Turf Hotel corner in order to safeguard pedestrians from vehicular traffic. It was stated that another improvement could be made by cutting back a laurel tree near the Turf Hotel and overhanging the footpath.
