BUTTER AND CHEESE LITTLE PROSPECT OF IMPROVE. ME NT SIBERIAN SHIPMENTS DUE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) , LONDON, 3rd May. Although butter consumption remains good prices were again easier, for arrivals have been heavy. Stocks in cold store are now nearly 300,000 boxes. The Continental production is growing larger and supplies from the Irish Free State are coming along. The first shipments from Siberia are due next week, so although the. low retail prices are creating a good demand there is little prospect for an improvement of prices. The position of the cheese market is also unsatisfactory. The demand for New Zealand and Australian has been poor, and the price of both is round about 50s, while Canadian is over 70s. The difference of price between these cheeses at this time of the year is usually about 12s, and importers attribute the greater margin to the fact that New Zealand and Australian is not of such good quality as it ought to be. The New Zealand Dairy Produce Importers Association has taken the matter up and circularised factories pointing out where they are dissatisfied, and suggesting remedies.
